BALLAD ON TAKING LIFE TO COURT
Performance by Cheikh Hammou in collaboration with AWAL
A subtitled musical and poetic performance with Cheikh Hammou and his troupe (Cheikh Ali, Viola and back-up vocals; Cheikh Moha, bendir and back-up vocals). Cheikh Hammou is one of the still-practicing "Imdiazen," Amazigh griots/troubadours of the central Atlas whose archive are the hundreds, maybe thousands of poems they hold in their memory. This performance consisted of a selection of five Tamdiazt (ballads) recounting the past and present of life in the Atlas mountains, from anti-colonial resistance to climate change. The performance was accompanied by fictionalised introductions which put each of his poems in context.
