Created by DOX BOX in partnership with the Arab Fund For Arts and Culture (AFAC), the Documentary Convention is an annual international convention of documentary professionals, artists & decision-makers from the Arab world, Africa, Europe and around the globe.
Doc Convention is designed as an inspirational think-tank event that encourages its participants to brainstorm together. It aims to formulate and address the main questions ahead in the field of documentary within a shifting audiovisual space: what is the nature of the contemporary documentary field, where is it going, and how do we ensure that we are fit for the changes ahead?
Doc Convention is a rare space of collective reflection on how to break the mould of entrenched formats and to come up with innovative solutions for existing challenges. It aims at strengthening a trans-local community of doc artists across borders. It seeks to ignite critical debates and initiate lasting processes of change.
The Doc Convention took place in 2018 and 2019 in Leipzig. The 2020 edition had to be postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the whole organisation is going through a re-structuring process in 2024, the Doc Convention is suspended until further notice.
