Places bear witness to passages, encounters, dreams, histories, transformation and evolutions. Bousselssla is a popular area in the northern suburbs of Tunis, known for it’s busy sunday souqs. Designed in the 1970s by social resettlement under Bourguiba, Tunisia’s first president after independence, it has become one of the most vibrant areas of Tunis’ upper class Northern suburbs, melting pot of ethnic and social fabrics. In its midst a bookshop holds the memories of the political struggle of generations past. While the market is set up in busy streets of the quarter, book shop owner Hamaed and his friends of the former left wing Perspectives movement unfold their stories. Their testimonies find resonance with a new generation plagued by a perpetual malaise following Tunisia’s political trajectory after 2011. The Dream Continues is a circular journey exploring the necessity to revisit the past to understand the present by tracing intergenerational aspirations from Tunisia’s 1968 student uprising to the political overturn in the summer of 2021.
