Vrej Boyajan Lebanon Management Contributions: Board, General Assembly Vrej is one of the founding members of DOX BOX and member of the General Assembly. He specializes in financial affairs and institutional development with a background in the areas of investment and financial management in the Arab Gulf and the Levant. Vrej holds a Master’s degree in Financial and Investment Management from the Lebanese American University. Marion Schmidt Germany Cultural Project Manager Contributions: General Assembly, Selection Committee ABC Germany, Academy, ADC Marion is a co-founding member of DOX BOX e.V. As of 2017 she took on the design and inauguration of the documentary convention and the Amiralay Awards, where she is setting up and curating the program and collaborations. Previously Marion was co-chair of the board of DOX BOX from 2014 to 2016 and acted as the administrative head of the organization. Furthermore she was in charge of administrational management and the project supervision of the online MENA academy portal. Marion is an experienced project manager and has worked for various institutions across Europe and the Middle East, including Goethe-Institute Cairo, the European Film Market (Berlin) and Social Enterprise (London). Marion holds a master’s degree in Arts Administration & Cultural Policy from the University of London, UK. She is fluent in German and English and has basic conversational skills in Arabic. Ali Mahmoud Contributions: General Assembly Ali is one of the founding members of DOX BOX and member of the General Assembly. He specializes in visual communication, has many years of experience in visual identity and brand design, and is the founder of Keybrand. Ali holds a Master’s degree in Retail Design & Branding from ELISAVA – Barcelona School of Design & Engineering. Stephan Detjen Germany Journalist Contributions: General Assembly Stephan is a journalist and chief correspondent of Deutschlandradio in Berlin’s capital studio. From June 2008 until March 2012 he was the editor-in-chief of the Deutschlandfunk. Stephan studied law and history and he is board member of Trustees for the Peace Prize, the German Book Trade, Trustees of the German Study Award and the German Media Prize. In the winter of 2015, Stephan took over an indefinite guarantee for the legal entry of a Syrian war refugee under the Syrian refugee initiative. He has been a member of the General Assembly since 2017. Diana El Jeiroudi Germany, Syria Director, Producer Contributions: Expert Group, Former Staff, General Assembly, General Director Academy, ADC, DiB, Residency in Exile, Residency MENA Diana is a co-founder of DOX BOX e.V. Since the establishment of the association, she has been responsible for setting up its structures, allocating the resources, leading the team, setting up collaborations, and designing programs. She is actively involved in the Academy and the Fund departments. From 2014 until 2016 Diana was co-chair of the board of DOX BOX. She has over 15 years of experience in documentary filmmaking as a director and producer of award-winning documentaries and as a co-founder of the production company Proaction Film and the documentary film festival DOX BOX in Syria. Diana holds a bachelor's degree in Arts and Humanities from the University of Damascus. She is fluent in Arabic and English and speaks German on an intermediate level. Andrea Kuhn Germany Festival Manager Contributions: Board, Film Consultant, General Assembly Academy Andrea has been the director of the Nuremberg Human Rights Film Festival since 2007. Prior to that she was the director of StummFilmMusikTage in Erlangen from 2000 to 2011 and a lecturer for Film Studies at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg from 2000 to 2008. Andrea has been a member of the general assembly since 2015 and has been a co-chair of the board since 2016. Moncef Taleb Tunisia Producer, Sound engineer Contributions: Film Consultant, General Assembly, Selection Committee Academy, Mapping Arab Documentary, Residency MENA Moncef is an independent filmmaker specializing in sound engineering. Since early 2000, he has worked as a sound recordist and engineer on several creative documentaries and author-driven fiction films, such as “Sacrifices” and “We Were Still Communists”. He is one of the founders of ATAC Filmmaker Association in Tunisia and a filmmaking production collective in Tunisia. Isabel Arrate Fernandez The Netherlands Film Fund Contributions: General Assembly Isabel has been the manager of the IDFA Bertha Fund since 2002 where she has participated in numerous juries and works regularly as a consultant for documentary projects. In the past 15 years, the fund has developed into an internationally renowned institution with a broad network supporting over 500 documentary projects and film organizations in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle-East and Latin America. She is a co-founding member of the General Assembly and sits on the Board of Directors. Matthias Sailer Germany Journalist, Political Analyst Contributions: General Assembly Matthias is a political analyst with experience in political consulting, policy research, journalism, and business. Educated in Berlin, Oxford and London he is currently a fellow at Zeit Stiftung Berlin, after having finished a 3-year-long fellowship in the Middle East and Africa division at the German Institute for International Affairs. Before returning to Berlin in 2014, Matthias worked as correspondent in Cairo, Egypt between 2011-2014. Matthias is one of the founding members of DOX BOX and member of the General Assembly. Hala Galal Egypt Director, Producer Contributions: Film Consultant, General Assembly, Selection Committee Academy, Residency MENA Hala is an Egyptian filmmaker. As such, she contributed to and co-founded several initiatives aimed at supporting independent and alternative cinema. She co-founded “SEMAT Production and Distribution” which she has been managing since its inception. Hala was a jury member in numerous international, regional and local festivals, as well as head of the “Caravan of the Euro-Arab Cinema Festival” and the “Masry Asly” festival. Orwa Nyrabia Germany, Syria Film Consultant, Producer Contributions: General Assembly, Mentor, Selection Committee ABC Germany, Academy, Residency MENA Orwa is one of the founding members of the DOX BOX General Assembly. He is a highly-acclaimed independent documentary film producer, who has earned numerous awards and screened projects in major international film festivals and on television channels around the world. He manages an independent production company in Berlin where he focuses on documentary films with sociopolitical relevance. Orwa holds a degree in Acting from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus, Syria. He was the Main Mentor for DOX BOX’s e-course “ABC Germany in October 2017”. Hicham Falah France, Morocco Director, Festival Manager Contributions: Board, General Assembly Hicham is the Manager of FILMS DE PAPIER (filmmaker and producer) as well as Artistic Director at FIFFS. Furthermore, he acts as the Délégué Général at FIDADOC (International Film Festival of Agadir). Originally from Casablanca and France, Hicham studied cinematography at Sorbonne University’s Louis Lumière College in Paris. Mikael Opstrup Denmark Mentor, Producer Contributions: Board, General Assembly Mikael is the Head of studies at EDN (European Documentary Network) and film consultant. He has been a dedicated documentarist since his first 8mm piece in 1977. In the 1980s, Mikael worked in distribution and theatrical release for documentaries and has worked as a documentary producer since the 1990s. He was Production Adviser at The Danish Film Institute from 1998-2002, and from 2002 – 2008, he was co-owner of Final Cut Productions in Copenhagen. Guevara Namer Germany, Syria Director, Producer Contributions: Expert Group, General Assembly, Researcher Academy, DiB, Mapping Arab Documentary Guevara is a photographer and documentary filmmaker based in Berlin. Her film"Morning Fears, Night Chants" (2012) premiered at IDFA and was broadcast on Al Arabiya and ARTE (2013). She is a co-founder of DOX BOX and, between 2014 and 2017 held the position of its Academy manager and community moderator. She worked as a production manager and line produer of several Syrian documentary films, such as "Return to Homs" (2013) and "Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait" (2014). Emma Davie UK Director, Editor Contributions: General Assembly Emma is a filmmaker and consultant at the Scottish Documentary Institute. She has won many awards, including three Scotland BAFT as in 2013. She has been making documentaries for fifteen years: What Age Can You Start Being An Artist? for Channel4 (2004, nominated for a Grierson); Gigha: Buying Our Island (2002, a one-hour film for BBC/Scottish Screen); and Flight (2000, a BBC/Canadian co- production). With a background in experimental theatre and performance, Emma ran her own company called Clanjamfrie which did large-scale site-specific performances that combined film and live performance.
