Internship opportunities in Event Organisation and Implementation for the
Documentary Convention 2020

Internship context:

From 07.-09. April 2020 DOX BOX e.V. and the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) will host the third edition of the  Documentary Convention in Berlin. The Documentary Convention is an annual convening of documentary professionals, artists & decision-makers from the Arab region, Africa, Europe and from around the globe. Doc Convention 2020 will be designed as inspirational think-tank event that invites participants to brainstorm and aims at formulating and addressing the big questions ahead in documentary in a shifting audiovisual space.

Internships will allow the interns to:

  • Attend the Documentary Convention, including the opportunity to be at the very centre of this event. Interns will receive a full waiver of the registration and be part of all networking events. In addition to this, for the time of the convention, DOX BOX will provide all meals and contributes to local transportation (BVG).
  • At the Doc Convention, interns will have the chance to meet international experts and be involved in the discussions.
  • Accompany a convention event in preparation and implementation, with the chance to experience what goes into organising an international, multi-day convention.
  • Getting acquainted with working practices in the cultural/ documentary field and in event management in the cultural sector.
  • Enjoy supervision and professional exchange in a stimulating multicultural work environment.
  • Interns will furthermore receive a financial compensation for the internship.

Working hours shall be agreed at the beginning of the internship. The internship can start on a part-time basis, and will be full-time from the beginning of March.

We are looking for people who can lend a hand in two fields of work and assist in the respective tasks:

During the time of preparation for the convention, we are looking for up to two interns to support the team at the DOX BOX e.V. office in Berlin-Moabit with organising, preparing and implementing the Documentary Convention over the period of 10-15 weeks.

We are looking for people who can lend a hand in two fields of work and assist in the respective tasks:

Option 1: Project assistance

  • Supporting project manager with coordination and implementation tasks before and during the convention.
  • Soliciting offers and communicating with event service providers.
  • Communicating with panelists, presenters and moderators.
  • Supporting the communication efforts (social media, website) and dissemination of information.
  • Volunteer coordination and recruitment.

Internship duration: beginning of February till mid of April 2020 

Option 2: Logistic implementation assistance

  • Documentary Convention  participant coordination, including running the invitation and registration process for Documentary Convention  participants and contributors, in English and, if possible, in Arabic.
  • Travel planning for delegates and speakers, including preparation of individual schedules, welcome packs, and being the contact person during Documentary Convention.
  • Maintain overview and accurate schedule of all travel and hotel details.
  • On-the ground logistical coordination with volunteers.

Internship duration: beginning/mid of February till mid of April 2020 


For both internships, applicants should be:

  • University student in Event Management, Film Studies, Political Science or another relevant field

OR: people who wish to start a study program or to re-enter the labor market, and are  looking for orientation

  • Fully available from 02 – 10 April 2020 with readiness to work over-time.

Other than that, special requirements apply according to the field of work you are interested in:

Option 1/Project assistance

  • Some previous experience with coordination and/or communication tasks in the context of an event, conference, or festival.
  • Excellent oral and written, and communication skills in English, advanced skills in German, Arabic skills are a plus.
  • Be comfortable in multi-challenging settings, with an ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Enjoy taking over some responsibility, e.g. coordination of volunteers.
  • Be a good communicator and enjoy professional contact with people.
  • Computer literate, with good working knowledge of Powerpoint.
  • Culturally sensitive.

Option 2/ Logistic implementation assistance

  • Some previous experience with guest coordination or similar tasks in an event, festival or conference setting.
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English, advanced skills in German, Arabic skills are a plus.
  • Computer literate, with good working knowledge of Excel.
  • Enjoy details and accuracy.
  • Be a good communicator and enjoy professional contact in writing, on the phone, and verbally.
  • Culturally sensitive.
  • Comfortable behind the desk and on the ground.
